Blood and Tears: James Blake’s “Lindisfarne”
James Blake has recently put out a video for his self-titled LP’s tracks “Lindisfarne I” and “II”, combining them into one entity. As usual, it’s hard to find words to describe how his music makes me feel. I always want to throw every superlative in the English dictionary at him, because honestly his music is the most perfect encapsulation of contemporary uncertainty and disconnect in the midst of increasing technology. It’s almost unbelievable how precisely, emotionally resonant his work is. “Lindisfarne” is no exception.
The video features a close-knit group of friends performing a kind of ritual to send one of them off on her own the next morning. Think battle scars, spitting into a cup, dancing pantsless in the great outdoors.
